Beverly Hart Jones, PSM:

SURVEYING “PROJECT X”

The Boundary Survey for a secret land acquisition that became Walt Disney World

In 1964 Beverly's father was asked to prepare a survey of 12,450 acres that must be completed within six weeks. This is the story behind that survey and the additional tracts and parcels that became the 27,443 acres that we know today as Walt Disney World. Th keynote presentation will cover a bit of local history and the technology of the day that was used to establish the boundary lines in the woods and swamps of Central Florida almost sixty years ago and led to what, at the time, was the largest private construction project in the United States.

Beverly Hart Jones, PSM  received her Florida Surveying and Mapping license in 1993. She is a fourth-generation Land Surveyor in Central Florida and has worked on many municipal, commercial, and residential projects. She currently leads the Subdivision Platting team at Johnston’s Surveying, Inc. in Kissimmee, Florida. She has been an active member of NSPS, the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society and the Central Florida Chapter of FSMS where she served as Chapter Secretary/Benchmark Newsletter Editor and is a Past President. She also aided in the formation of the FSMS Women In Surveying group in the early 2000’s. As a fifth generation Florida native she enjoys researching local and family history and consulting on continuing education seminars with local colleagues.
