Univ. Prof. Holger Magel, President of FIG represented FIG at
the "Surveyors Week 2003" in Jamaica which was organised to celebrate
the 75th Anniversary of the Land Surveyors Association of Jamaica
(LSAJ). The week was opened with a commemorative church service at The
Havenhill Baptist Church in Kingston on 26th October.
President Magel made also courtesy call to Dean Peart,
Minister of Land and Environment of Jamaica and to Mr.
Desmond McKenzie, Mayor of Kingston. He further met with Dr.
Rae Davis, President of the University of Technology, Jamaica, who
informed that the university will join FIG as an academic member.
Prof. Magel also gave a lecture at the university on "Shaping the
change: Visions on surveying and surveyors in the new century". The
lecture was part of the open day programme at the Land Surveying and
Geographic Information Sciences Division.
On Thursday October 30th President Magel gave a public lecture at
The Jamaica Conference Centre on "Spatial Information Management for
Sustainable Development". The highlight of the celebrations was the
75th Anniversary Dinner with speeches and dance.
During his visit Prof. Magel was further interview on public
broadcast and national newspaper. He also met with Dr. Christian
Hausmann, the German Ambassador in Jamaica.
