Global Geospatial Collaboration in Focus: DMGIS 2025 unites FIG and ISPRS in Beijing

22-23 August 2025, Beijing, China

The 9th international workshop on Dynamic and Multi-dimensional GIS (DMGIS) was held in Beijing, China on 22-23 August 2025. The DMGIS 2025 was supported by FIG, and FIG Vice President, Qin YAN, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.

DMGIS 2025 is a series of academic seminars initiated by the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) in 1997, aimed at exchanging methods, technologies, and applications around the modeling and application requirements of multidimensional dynamic geographic information. At the seminars, future development directions are also discussed.

The workshop has been successfully held 8 times around the world so far. FIG and ISPRS share a long history of collaboration. As early as 2002, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to strengthen cooperation.

Over the past two decades, the two organizations have worked together in many areas, always guided by common goals. This year, at the FIG Working Week 2025 in Brisbane, Australia, a special joint session were co-hosted entitled “FIG and ISPRS: Digital Innovation, Collaboration, and Beyond”, which focused on geospatial collaboration and innovation in the digital era.

This successful event once again demonstrated the value of the partnership, and now both organizations are actively considering new ways to further accelerate and strengthen this collaboration. We believe that such cooperation is not only part of the tradition of two organizations but also essential to the shared future.
